Fowey in Cornwall sits on a glorious stretch of coastline with sheltered bays, long stretches of sand and estuary views. It's no wonder that visitors flock here in the summer to laze on the beach and frolic in the sea. But for first time visitors, the choice of beaches in the Fowey area can be overwhelming. Here we outline some of the best, favourte beaches to enjoy on holiday in the lovely fishing port of Fowey.
Whitehouse Beach - Close to the heart of Fowey, this beach is easy to reach when staying in town. At this location there is a shallow sea water swimming pool so it is terrific for family members, especially those with little kids. One would certainly need to stroll for five mins from the parking area to this great beach location however it truly deserves all the effort.
Readymoney Cove - this beautiful sandy cove is one of the most popular in the area and easily accessible fro Fowey. It is great at low tide, when there are numerous rock pools to explore. Dog are welcome during the winter months, but are banned in the summer. Its a great day to spend the day, not only for the views, but also for the facilities. There is a convenient cafe close by serving sandwiches, hot drinks and Cornish pasties. Enjoy!
Par Sands - to the West of Fowey on the way to Charlestown and St Austell is Par Sands. This long stretch of beach is perfect for long walks and watersports. When the wind is blowing, this broad beach is popular with kite surfers and kite boarders, while dinghy sailors whizz by out to sea. There is parking at Par Sands, plus toilets and nearby dining establishments.
Polkerris - its a joy to sit on the beach and soak up the scenery on a sunny day. Polkerris is close to Fowey and excellent for families, especially those who like to get active while they are on holiday. The stroll from the parking area to the coastline place is rather short at just three mins. And once on the beach older kids can try kayaking , stand up paddle boarding; while the younger ones can swim and explore the rock pools.
Polridmouth Cove - really close to Menabilly, this beach is a hidden gem. It's a long 15-minute stroll from the parking lot to Polridmouth Cove, and there are no facilities such as toilets here. But the sense of seclusion and splendour are well worth the effort and sacrifice. This is among the most enchanting coves in the area, but can only be accessed by foot or by watercraft. This is not a wonderful place for those with impairments (particularly those in mobility devices) as the path is rocky and unsteady. Visitors should watch the tide here, as the beach gets swallowed up as the estuary fills towards high tide.
Those stated are simply a simple selection of five beaches located near the stunning town of Fowey. But there are numerous other beaches nearby. Just open a map and explore up and down the coast. Or take the days drive to the north coast with its famous beaches such as Polzeath, Crantock and Fistral. It is great fun to simply select a number of beaches to see throughout a holiday.
